NEW DELHI: BJP leader and former Delhi chief minister Madan Lal Khurana was admitted to Sir Ganga Ram hospital in Delhi on Sunday.
He suffered brain haemorrhage and sources in the hospital said a multi-disciplinary team of doctors will be operating on him. His condition is serious, doctors said. Seventy four-years-old Khurana was called ‘Dilli ka sher’ (lion of Delhi) in 90s for working tirelessly and reviving the BJP in Delhi.
Khurana was Delhi’s chief minister from 1993 until he resigned in 1996. On 20 August 2005, Khurana was removed from the BJP for indiscipline. He has also served as the governor of Rajasthan.
BJP’s top leadership replaced him with Sahib Singh Verma. Khurana has held Parliamentary affairs and tourism portfolios in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government. He resigned from active politics in October 2004 but made a comeback few years later.
