LG seeks citizen participation for green Delhi
New Delhi: Lieutenant governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu on Saturday interacted with fitness enthusiasts, senior citizens and local residents at Bonta Park in Kamla Nehru Ridge, where he stressed that citizen participation is essential for creating a healthier, greener and more liveable capital.
LG joined community members in the park, which attracts around 4,000 visitors daily, and reviewed the facilities, including open-air gyms, yoga spaces and recreational areas.
“Delhi belongs to all of us, and its development and maintenance are our shared responsibility,” LG said.
During the visit, representatives of community groups raised concerns about park infrastructure, cleanliness, water facilities, entry points, and maintenance. LG Sandhu directed Delhi Development Authority officials to ensure timely resolution of these issues and maintain regular follow-up. LG is the chairperson of the DDA.
Recently, govt declared the Northern Ridge a reserved forest, a move aimed at providing stronger legal protection to the ecologically sensitive area and preventing encroachments.
Officials also briefed Sandhu on efforts to strengthen the Ridge ecosystem through biodiversity zones and ecological restoration initiatives to improve environmental quality.
