HC rejects R K Sharma's bail plea
NEW DELHI: The Delhi high court on Tuesday declined to give interim bail to senior Haryana IPS officer, R K Sharma, who is facing trial in the Shivani Bhatnagar murder case. The court refused bail on the grounds of Sharma’s pre-arrest conduct.
Justice R C Chopra held:‘‘Considering the facts and circumstances of the case and the petitioner’s conduct, the court is not inclined to give bail.’’
Holding the offence, allegedly committed by Sharma, as ‘‘serious,’’ the court said it could not be ruled out that the accused ‘‘might abscond and flee from justice,’’ if released on bail.

Sharma had sought three weeks interim bail to attend the wedding of his daughter on April 20.
Although the lower court had granted five days release on parole, Sharma had requested more time on bail claiming he had to arrange money and also perform rituals. He said he was ready to accept any condition imposed by the court.
Prosecution had opposed Sharma’s bail plea contending that Sharma wasuntraceable for 52 days before the police arrested him.
Dismissing Sharma’s plea, the court said the list of functions given by him in connection with his daughter’s marriage was too long and that his presence was not required at all the functions.
