New Delhi: Six youths travelling in a Ford Ecosport were killed when their SUV rammed into a truck on the G-T Karnal road on Friday.
The youths were headed for Murthal. Police said the Ecosport was being driven at a very high speed and swirled out of control when the truck just ahead of it suddenly slowed down due to a flat tyre. The truck driver has been arrested.
Police identified one of the victims as
Amit Singh from his Facebook profile after accessing his mobile phone. The other youths were identified in the same way. The deceased -- Vivekanand, Nishant, Vikash, Ansar Ahmed and Deepak Yadav - were all in their early 20s. The youths were on their way to Chandigarh after a party at Sonia Vihar.
"We received a call regarding an accident on NH-1 around 4.30am. The Ford Ecosport hit a loaded punctured truck," a police officer said. "All six people were declared brought dead by the hospital. We are investigating the case."
Police arrested the truck driver who had fled from the accident site. A case was registered at Badli police station under Section 304A (causing death by negligence) of the IPC. The car reportedly rammed into the divider as the driver tried to avoid the truck.
