Teacher booked for raping 16yo, giving her abortion pills

Pithoragarh: A case has been registered against a 43-year-old govt school teacher in Pithoragarh district for allegedly sexually assaulting a Class 10 student and giving her abortion pills to terminate her pregnancy.

The case came to light on Friday when the 16-year-old girl visited a primary health centre with severe stomach pain, and upon examination, doctors found she was pregnant. “Her condition was critical due to excessive bleeding,” said a doctor.

During an inquiry, the girl alleged that she had been sexually assaulted over a prolonged period by the teacher. She said that upon informing the teacher of her pregnancy, he gave her abortion pills, which worsened her condition and led her parents to take her to the hospital.

Station officer Suresh Kamboj said, “An FIR has been registered against the teacher under BNS section 64 (rape) and section 5/6 of Pocso Act. The matter is under investigation, and appropriate action will be taken.”
