DEHRADUN An FIR has been filed in Dehradun's Premnagar area against a man and four family members, including his siblings, for allegedly hiding his suspected serious medical condition after his wife was diagnosed with HIV and died days later.
Police said the matter came to light on Saturday. The woman, who was married to the accused a few years ago and had a son with him, died at a hospital in city in March.
Sub-inspector Pradyumna Negi said that on Feb 14, the woman was admitted to a hospital. "During treatment, the doctors got her tests, including one for HIV, done. Next day, her HIV test was found to be positive. After that the doctors asked the accused and their son to get tested for HIV, but he left the hospital with the boy," added Negi.
The SI added that the woman's health deteriorated. "She was put on a ventilator... The man thereafter sent his HIV test report on WhatsApp to the woman's brother in which the result was mentioned as negative," said Negi.
"The woman died on March 2. The doctors again asked the accused to get HIV tests done, but he and his family left the city. Later, her brother contacted the hospital from which he had earlier claimed to have got the test done. Hospital management, however, did not have any knowledge," said Negi.
A case was filed under relevant BNS sections. The accused will be summoned soon, police said.
