Man poisons son, wife & father to death in Salem

Salem: A 38-year-old man murdered his six-year-old son, wife and father by feeding them food mixed with poison and ended his life by hanging at his house at Indira Nagar near Gorimedu here on Tuesday night. While his mother also consumed the food laced with poison, she survived. The Kannankurichi police identified the deceased as S Tilak, his wife Maheshwari, 35, son Sai Krishnanth, and father Sivaraman, 65.A police officer said Thilak was working with a private company in Chennai. “He has been working from home after the outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic. His son was dumb. It was a major concern for both Thilak and his wife, and they were very much upset about it.” He said Thilak’s father Sivaraman was a retired Bengaluru airport staffer and he was married to Vasantham, 56. “Around 7am on Wednesday, Vasantham came out of the house and informed her neighbours that all her family members were found dead in the house.” They alerted the Kannankurichi police. A team led by inspector M Selvaraj subsequently retrieved the bodies and sent them to the Salem Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College and Hospital (SGMKMCH) for postmortem.“Preliminary inquiry revealed that Thilak gave his family members food laced with poison for dinner and hanged himself. Vasantham, who ate only a little food, survived. She is undergoing treatment at SGMKMCH and her condition is stable,” Selvaraj said. He said the entire family was sad about the condition of Krishnanth. “We suspect this might be the reason that pushed Thilak to take the extreme decision. We have registered a case and further inquiry is on.”
