Private school in Erode receives hoax bomb threat

Erode: A bomb threat received via email caused considerable alarm at JCS Matriculation Higher Secondary School in Thottipalayam, here on Tuesday.

The school administration alerted Erode district superintendent of police G Jawahar of the email. In response, the SP assembled a specialised team led by town deputy superintendent of police Muthu Kumaran, along with bomb squad experts. They promptly arrived at the school and conducted a thorough search of the premises.

The DSP later confirmed that no explosives were found on the premises. Meantime, the school management had declared a holiday for its students following the threat. Police personnel were stationed on the school premises until evening, as a precautionary measure.

Earlier in September, the same school had received a hoax bomb threat email. It was later found that two students from the school had sent the email in a bid to get a holiday. Police officials had then cautioned the students against engaging in such activities in the future.

A probe is on into the source of the latest threat.
