Art exhibition brings a splash of colour to Coimbatore

COIMBATORE: The art exhibition by Class XII students of Lawrence School Lovedale has become the talk of the town. The exhibition, which entered the second day on Saturday at the Kasthuri Sreenivasan Art Gallery, was a display of the artistic skills and thought processes.
While Diya, a student who specializes in human figure painting, showcased dreams of a person through her work, another student, Manjari Kothari, depicted her understanding of people’s nature and inner turmoil through her paintings.
Some students used the medium to question the society’s restriction on girls going out at night, be it alone or with a person of opposite gender, and its take on women who smoke. “My painting, in which I have detailed a girl’s expressions when she finally sees the night, is an expression of freedom from the society’s restrictions,” said Sowmya, another student.
While students like Aryan Rathod expressed their passions and likes through their works, others showed their latent in painting vintage cars, etc. “For us, art is a stress buster, a break from other subjects. It is a way to express ourselves,” said F Fazil, another student.
Kashvi Sinha, also a student, said many of them were looking at painting as a career option. “To say, like getting into art therapy.”
V Karthikeyan, a teacher from the school, said, “We offer art as a proper fourth subject for Class XI and X1I under the CBSE syllabus. Art is a definite skill. We want more people to understand the expertise in it and explore career options in it, especially when demand for courses like engineering is on the decline.”
The art exhibition would conclude on Sunday.
