Vehicles damaged in Peravallur, seven held

CHENNAI: A group damaged vehicles parked on the roadside near

Peravallur

on Monday night over a previous enmity with another

gang

police arrested seven people including a

juvenile

in connection with the incident.

At 11.30 pm, J Allappan alias Yashwanthraj, 22, of

Kolathur

along with six others on bikes, took out logs and rods from their vehicles and damaged three cars, four autorickshaws, one tempo lorry and two motorbikes that were parked on the roadside. A local D Harishankar, 25, who was at the scene of the

crime

speaking on the cellphone tried to stop them but in vain, as the gang attacked him.He suffered injuries on his head and hand and was hospitalised.

Another resident who witnessed the incident alerted the police. Before the police, arrived the gang escaped. Police went through footage from CCTV cameras from the scene of the crime to establish their identity. Allappan, U Easaki Muthu of Rajamangalam, M Manivandan, 19, of Jawahar Nagar, M Sathish Kumar, 20, of Periyar Nagar, M Vignesh, 19, of Pervalur, E Praveen Kumar, 19, of Peravallur and a juvenile were arrested.

Allappan had a previous enmity with Appu, 24 a resident of GKM colony. In a similar manner last month, Appu and his associates damaged around six vehicles in Kolathur. “The group in order to seek vengence against the gang, damaged public property,” said an invesigating officer.
