The following are the highlights of the 2023-24 budget presented in the Tamil Nadu assembly by finance minister Palanivel Thiaga Rajan on Monday.

The following are the highlights of the 2023-24 budget presented in the Tamil Nadu assembly by finance minister Palanivel Thiaga Rajan on Monday.

  • TN to launch Rs 1,000 monthly financial aid for women home makers from September 15. It has allocated Rs 7,000 crore for the scheme
  • Metro rail services to be launched in Coimbatore and Madurai. It has earmarked Rs 9000 crore and Rs 8,500 crore to implement the project
  • Rs 500 crore allocated for procurement of 1,000 new buses and refurbishing another 500 buses
  • Free breakfast scheme to be extended to all 30,122 government primary schools from 2023-24. Rs 500 crore allocated
  • Solatium for defence personnel who sacrifice their lives during duty will be doubled from Rs 20 lakh to Rs 40 lakh

  • Literacy and numeracy programme to be extended up to Class V
  • North Chennai development initiative to be launched at Rs 1 000crore
  • New multi super specialty facility will be built in Stanley Medical College Hospital along with a nursing college and hostel
  • Under Singara Chennai initiative, the river Adyar to be restored with greenery, parks, open gyms and walking area at the cost of Rs 1500 crore
  • International birds centre would be established at Marakkanam at the cost of Rs 25 crore
  • Monthly financial assistance for severely differently abled persons increased from Rs1,500 to Rs2000
  • Rs3,993 crore allotted to waive gold and education loans
  • TN targets bank loans to the tune of Rs 30,000 crore for women self-help groups
  • A training institute for advanced technology would be set up at Ambattur at a cost of Rs 120 crore
  • A grand Chola museum will be set up in Thanjavur
  • TN to bring all schools functioning under various departments including Adi-Dravida and Tribal Welfare, Backward Classes, Most Backward Classes and Denotified Communities and Forest under the school education department
  • Rs 77,000 crore allocated for developing a mega power project to generate 14,500MW power by 2030
