film that has been selected for screening at the Indian Panorama.

The movie portrays the life of Kolappan, a dalit, who is forced by upper caste people to carry his father's corpse through a thorny and unformed route to an uncertain graveyard. With stunning shots and a powerful script, the movie brings in how the protagonist struggles to provide a deserved burial for his father.

“I am very happy that my film got selected in Indian Panorama which has acquired a distinction over the years. Films selected in Indian Panorama are considered the best among the films made in India, and the section itself is meant for audience outside India,” said Amshan Kumar, whose first feature “Oruthithi” (2003) explored the struggles of a dalit woman who fought against upper caste supremacy in society.

The 90-minute-long “Manusangada” was premiered at the Mumbai Film Festival in October.

Amshan's “Yazhpanam Thedchanamoorthy: Music beyond Boundaries,” won the national award under the art/culture documentary category in 2016.

Five mainstream films, including S Rajamouli’s “Baahubali 2: The Conclusion” (Telugu), have been also been selected under Indian Panorama.

“The opening film of the feature film section of Indian Panaroma is ‘Pihu’ directed by Vinod Kapri,” said a release from the ministry of Information and broadcasting on Thursday.

The Jury for feature films, headed by acclaimed film director and actor Sujoy Ghosh, previewed 153 entries from various Indian languages.
