CHENNAI: The school education department on Tuesday appointed a high-level committee to suggest ways to simplify the procedures relating to providing recognition and renewing licences to private schools in the state. Retired IAS officer M P Vijayakumar will head the five-member committee. R Pitchai, joint director (matriculation schools) will be the member-secretary.
While receiving recognition and subsequent renewals, the school managements need to get nods from various departments for building license, structural safety, sanitary condition and fire safety etc.
With complaints pouring in about prolonged delay in getting those essential certificates, the managements have appealed to the government to simplify the formalities.
They had said that the students were put to hardship during the public examinations due to the delay in granting necessary approvals. The government said that the committee would suggest ways to simplify the procedure while considering the safety of students and welfare of the school. Retired school education director T Jagannathan, school education director P Perumalsamy and director of matriculation schools P Mani will be the members of the committee.
