Farmer trampled to death by wild elephant in TN

ERODE: A wild elephant trampled a farmer to death in Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve (STR) in Erode district of Tamil Nadu on Tuesday.

The deceased has been identified as K Makkaiya, 65, of Thiginarai.

Makkaiya had cultivated bananas and maize on his four acres of land. He used to guard the standing crops at night against wild animals.

A wild elephant, which came out of the STR around 3am on Tuesday, attacked Makkaiya. "He died on the spot," said an official in the Thalavadi forest range.
