DLSA issue show cause notice to Tiruvannamalai commissioner, health officer

) has issued show cause notice to the commissioner and municipality health officer of the Tiruvannamalai Municipality questioning them for non-maintenance of public drainage system and directing them to appear before it on October 26.

Chairman of DLSA and principal district judge G Mahizhenthi conducted an inspection in Tiruvannamalai town following complaints from K Megalavathy and R Jaya Sudha of Tiruvannamalai town on October 23. The complainants stated that the municipality officials have collected a huge sum of money as fine from them without cleaning the drainage in their respective locality.

Based on the complaints and spot inspection reports, the authority has sought an explanation from the commissioner and the MHO for failing to discharge their official duties, which caused several inconveniences to the public.

The authority questioned the officials and sought the explanation why it should not take action against them for not discharging their duties as prescribed in the Tamil Nadu District Municipal Act 1920 and Tamil Nadu Public Health Act. They have also been directed to appear before the authority at 10 am on October 26 along with records pertaining to the maintenance of the public drainage in the municipality limit and offer their explanation.

The officials have slapped a fine of Rs 1.05 lakh to a cinema theatre, domestic soda making unit and a house in the town after they found breeding source of mosquitoes in the respective premises during dengue preventive programme on Sunday. The officials imposed fine against them on charges of causing proliferation of mosquitoes.
