Chennai woman attempts suicide, says cops delayed Pocso case
Chennai: A 46-year-old woman who had accused her second husband of molesting her 15-year-old daughter attempted suicide, saying police failed to arrest him.
Based on her complaint, police filed a case under the Pocso Act and are investigating. The woman, meanwhile, is in stable condition at a govt hospital. Police said her allegations are being verified, as initial probes suggest the complaint may have been filed to settle a personal score with her partner.
Police said the complainant married her partner in 2018 — after separating from her first husband, with whom she had two children. — and had lent him 2 lakh and 15 sovereigns of gold to help his business, a lorry transport service. But the relationship turned sour after the man allegedly developed an affair with another woman.
In the last week of May, an argument escalated into a physical confrontation. The man was arrested on May 20, and the woman and her relatives allegedly removed parts from his lorries at this time. When he was let out on bail, the man demanded the items be returned to him, and the woman responded by asking for her jewels and cash. On June 4, the woman lodged the Pocso complaint, alleging he had misbehaved with her daughter, a Class X student.
