CHENNAI: Chennai and other parts of
Tamil Nadu are likely to get
rain on Friday night and Saturday due to a trough of low pressure over the Indian Ocean.
“The low pressure is located near the equator right in the south of Indian peninsula. It is moving north,” said a duty officer at the Regional Meteorological Centre here.
While southern parts of the state can expect rain up to 6cms, northern parts may get up to 3cms of rain.
“Rain will be widespread, accompanied by thundershowers,” he added.
The rain will be a welcome relief as Chennai on Friday experienced a maximum temperature of 35.8 degrees Celsius and a minimum temperature of 29.3 degrees Celsius.
Between March 1 and April 24, Tamil Nadu received 99mm of rain, 102% more than normal of 49.1mm.
