Was scared, so fled: Woman seated next to Beetle driver

Chandigarh: Police on Monday recorded the statement of the woman who was with the Volkswagen Beetle driver when it ploughed into bystanders, killing three people.Sources said the woman told the car was being driven by Paramveer Singh and she was sitting next to him. She had fled as she was scared after the accident, sources said.Police said the accused who is in police custody was paraded before independent eyewitnesses wo identified him as the driver of the car on the day of the incident on Wednesday evening. Police on Monday also called the son of a former head constable of Chandigarh Police accused of sheltering the accused driver at his farmhouse near Zirakpur for questioning.
