Warring receives Channi at PAU, says Congress united & will win 2027 polls
Ludhiana: Amid speculation of a reshuffle in the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC), state party president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring on Monday asserted that the party was united and poised for victory in the 2027 assembly elections. The Ludhiana MP met former chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi, chairman of the parliamentary standing committee on agriculture, who is leading a delegation to Punjab Agricultural University (PAU). Warring, accompanied by local senior leaders, received Channi on the PAU campus, where he maintained that the top leadership, including Partap Singh Bajwa, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, and Channi, remains a cohesive front. The PCC president submitted a detailed memorandum to Channi, seeking a one-time research grant of Rs 1,000 crore for the university, alongside a recurring annual grant of Rs 50 to 60 crore. Warring said PAU has been starved of funds, struggling at times to pay salaries to scientists and staff despite its historical role in scripting the Green Revolution. Addressing the AAP's performance in municipal council elections, Warring dismissed the results as a traditional trend. "For twenty years, the ruling party has always won these elections, only to lose the assembly polls," he said, adding that the opposition's performance under the current govt has actually been stronger than in previous years. Warring further attacked the state govt, claiming the AAP had completely failed on law and order, drug control, employment, and fiscal management, pushing the state toward bankruptcy. On Union minister Ravneet Singh Bittu's recent apology following a scuffle with police, Warring challenged the minister's record. "Instead of fighting with cops, Bittu should tell the people of Punjab what he has achieved in two years as a minister. Has he provided jobs or laid a single additional rail line?" he asked. Regarding former CM Capt Amarinder Singh's recent remarks on the BJP's inclusivity, Warring questioned why he had left the Congress if that were the case. "He must have realised how liberal the Congress was and how suffocating the BJP is," Warring remarked. Accompanying Warring were senior leaders Jassi Khangura, Surinder Dawer, Kuldeep Singh Vaid, Pawan Dewan, and Sanjay Talwar.
