Shimla: In a tragic accident in the tourist town of Dalhousie in Chamba district, a car carrying six tourists from Punjab plunged into a deep gorge, killing three and injuring three others.
The incident occurred late Friday night while the group was returning to their guest house. Those who lost their lives were Simran Preet Kaur (18) of Kapurthala, Surendra (25) from Jalandhar, and Sophia, whose family was taking her to Pathankot from Dalhousie. The injured included Prince (21) of Amritsar, admitted to Tanda Medical College in Kangra, Suman Preet (19) of Ferozepur and Balbir Singh (20) of Barnala being treated at Dalhousie Civil Hospital.
Superintendent of police Vijay Saklani said the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to fall into the gorge. Police, along with fire department personnel and local residents, rescued the injured and rushed them to nearby hospitals. The police have registered a case against the driver for negligent driving and launched an investigation into the accident. Following postmortem examinations, the bodies of the deceased were handed over to their families on Saturday. Police urged tourists to exercise caution while traveling in hilly regions, especially under snowy conditions.
