Chandigarh: Panjab University, Chandigarh, finished as first runners-up in the North Zone Inter-University Basketball (Men) Championship, which concluded Monday at MCM DAV College, Kangra. The tournament was organised by Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla.
PU defeated Chandigarh University, Mohali, 70-56 in the qualifying match. In the league stage, the team beat Punjabi University, Patiala, 87-60, and Lovely Professional University, 92-58, before losing a close contest to Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla, 38-42. The PU squad comprised Harmanjot Singh Cheema, Jaideep, Sahibjit Singh, Sukhcharan Singh, Jashandeep Singh and Bibek Singh (SCD Government College, Ludhiana); Parag Tirth and Jaydip Singh (GGDSD College, Sector 32); Japsanjam Singh and Jaddu Maan (Arya College, Ludhiana); Eknor Singh Johal (DM College, Moga); and Janmejay Singh (SGGS College, Sector 26).
