AMRITSAR: The jathedar of Takht Sri Harimandir Ji Patna Sahib Giani Baldev Singh has written a letter to the jathedar of Akal Takht Giani Raghbir Singh to not consider the case of former jathedar of Takht Sri Harimandir Ji Patna Sahib Giani Ranjit Singh Gohar who has been declared tankhiya (guilty of religious misconduct) by Takht Sri Harimandir Ji Patna Sahib.

In the letter, Bhai Baldev Singh said that Giani Ranjit Singh has been declared tankhiya and excommunicated by panj payaras of Takht Sri Harimandir Ji Patna Sahib after he was allegedly found guilty of the violation of maryada (Sikh code of religious conduct).

Besides Bhai Baldev Singh, jathedar Takht Sri Harimandir Ji Patna Sahib, the letter is signed by Bhai Dalip Singh, head granthi, Bhai Gurdial Singh, additional head granthi, Bhai Parshuram Singh, senior vice-granthi and Bhai Amarjit Singh, vice-granthi.

The panj payraas, in their letter, alleged that Ranjit Singh Gohar has faced multiple allegations of violating maryada during his tenure as jathedar, which led to him being declared tankhiya.

Giani Baldev Singh couldn’t be contacted for his comments. However, his son Ranjit Singh admitted having written the letter to jathedar of Akal Takht.

Sources questioned why the panj payaras of Takht Sri Harimandir Ji Patna Sahib, Bihar, have written to the jathedar of Akal Takht, urging that the complaints against Giani Ranjit Singh should not be considered. “Is this not an attempt by certain forces to create a division between the two Takhts,” the sources asked.
