Nursing student dies by suicide; FIR against boyfriend

Tarn Taran: A 23-year-old nursing student at a private college allegedly died by suicide at her home in Sheron village, Tarn Taran district, after her friend refused to marry her despite assurances, police said.Police have registered a case against Rajinder Singh, a resident of Bal Kalan village in Majitha, on a complaint by the mother of the victim. The accused is absconding, and police said raids are underway to apprehend him. According to the mother's complaint, Rajinder had been friends with her daughter, identified as Geetika, for some time and had visited their home on several occasions. He had allegedly assured Geetika that he would marry her, and her family had no objections to the relationship. However, the mother alleged when Geetika returned home from college around 3pm on June 5, she was distraught and revealed Rajinder had refused to marry her. The mother attempted to console her daughter before leaving for her shop. Upon returning home about an hour later, she found Geetika allegedly hanging from the ceiling.
