Minor dispute turns fatal in Balongi; man, father held, knife recovered

Mohali: A minor altercation turned fatal in Adarsh Nagar, Balongi, with police arresting the main accused and his father and recovering the murder weapon within 48 hours.

The victim, Abhishek Kumar, was allegedly stabbed to death following a heated argument on the night of May 27. Police said the accused, Munish Kumar (25), attacked Abhishek with a knife during a confrontation at his residence, also injuring two others before fleeing.

A case was registered at Balongi police station on May 28 based on a complaint by the victim’s brother. Acting on CCTV footage, technical surveillance and intelligence inputs, police traced and arrested Munna Yadav (40) on May 28, followed by the main accused a day later.

Both were produced before a court and remanded to three-day police custody.

Police said the knife used in the crime was recovered during interrogation. The injured, Prashant and Jyotish, are undergoing treatment, while Abhishek was declared dead at Civil Hospital, Phase 6.

Officials said further probe is under way to ascertain all circumstances leading to the incident.
