MC clears encroachments, removes unauthorised vendors
Chandigarh: The enforcement wing of the municipal corporation Monday carried out a drive against unauthorised vending, encroachments and rule violations across the city.
Teams removed 25 unauthorised coconut-selling sites operating without permission at various locations. Items such as tarpaulins, watermelon carts/tables, weighing balances and other encroaching material were seized during the operation.
In Sector 26 transport area, seven unauthorised fish sellers were removed for violating municipal norms. Action was also taken in the Motor Market, Sector 28, where six vehicles found in violation were impounded.
The drive continued in the evening in the furniture market, Sector 34, to ensure compliance with civic regulations and ease public movement. In all, 53 challans were issued during the day’s operation. The drive passed off peacefully.
Tandoor workers flag issues to mayor
Representatives of the Tandoor Workers’ Union met mayor Saurabh Joshi Monday, raising long-pending concerns of traditional underground tandoor workers. The union said such tandoors have served residents for over 60 years but many workers lack proper rehabilitation and welfare support. The mayor assured them their grievances would be examined sympathetically.
