CHANDIGARH: Punjab irrigation and power minister

Rana Gurjeet Singh

on Thursday asked the

Kandi Area Development

(KAD) administration to ensure judicious distribution of water in the Kandi areas.

He asked the department officials to ensure distribution of water as per the updated record of availability of water and quantum of water needed in the concerned area without any prejudice. The minister chaired a session at

Hydel Bhawan

to find solutions for grievances of the people of the Kandi area.

Eight MLAs from the Kandi belt, including Rajnish Kumar (Mukerian), Arun Dogra (Dasuya), Sangat Singh Gilzian (Tanda Urmur), Pawan Adia (Sham Churasi), Sunder Sham Arora (Hoshiarpur), Dr Raj Kumar (Chabbewal) and Darshan Lal Mangepur (

Balachaur

), among others attended the meeting

Gurjeet asked KAD officials including chief engineer to conduct field visits while coordinating with MLAs. Reacting on the objections raised by the MLAs on quality and other irregularities in the projects, he asked officials to plan and design the projects strictly according to available resources rather than wasting money on half baked projects.

He also asked officials to make water users associations to encourage proper operation and maintenance of the irrigation system. “Water users associations can also avail of the benefit of the projects and schemes run by the Union government to promote these associations,” he said. K B S Sidhu, special chief secretary also attended the meeting.
