Family out of town, 67L cash, jewellery stolen from house

Mohali: The cases of thefts have been on the rise in Tricity, and another such case has come forward in Zirakpur, where thieves decamped with cash and jewellery worth Rs 30 lakh from a locked house on the night intervening June 16 and 17, while the family was away. Complainant Rahul Kumar of AKS Colony-II on Patiala road in Zirakpur, said that he had gone to Allahabad with his family on June 8, and when they returned on June 16, they found the doors broken and the entire house ransacked. ASI Rajesh Chauhan, investigating officer said that on reaching the spot, the police checked the CCTV footage in which three thieves were seen entering the house on June 14 at around 2.20am. After robbing, they were not spotted in CCTV while leaving the house. So, the police suspect that they must have climbed the rooftop and jumped in the vacant land behind the house to escape. The ASI said that Rahul has claimed he has lost gold and silver jewellery worth Rs 24-26 lakh, and cash worth Rs 67 lakh in the theft. Rahul also told police that the thieves have also uprooted some expensive indoor plants from the pots and taken them along.
