ASI held accepting Rs 18,000 bribe in Patiala
Patiala: The Punjab vigilance bureau (VB) on Tuesday arrested an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) posted at Shutrana police station in Patiala district for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 18,000.The accused, Jaswinder Singh, was caught red-handed during a trap laid by the VB on the complaint of a resident of Bakraha village in Patran tehsil.According to the VB, the complainant's relatives had been injured in a clash with neighbours and were undergoing treatment at Rajindra Hospital, Patiala. The matter was reported to Shutrana police, following which the ASI visited the hospital to record statements.The complainant alleged that the ASI demanded Rs 20,000 to initiate legal action against the accused party and later agreed to accept Rs 18,000.Acting on the complaint, the vigilance team laid a trap and arrested the ASI while he was allegedly accepting the bribe in the presence of two official witnesses.A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered at the Vigilance Bureau police station, Patiala. Further investigation is underway.
