CHANDIGARH: A 61-year-old man died after he was allegedly thrashed by his relatives over a dispute over construction of a gate his house in Manimajra on Thursday.

The deceased was identified as Jeet Singh. His daughter Harsimran Kaur alleged that their relatives Karnail Singh, his wife Surinder Kaur, Rajinder Singh and Harvinder, who lived in the neighbourhood, assaulted her father. She said due to internal injuries, her father fell unconscious. He was taken to the civil hospital in Manimajra where doctors declared him dead on arrival. Later, Mauli Jagran police recorded the statement of family members of the deceased.

Harsimran alleged they had a dispute over construction of the main gate with the accused persons for the past nine months. Manimajra police said they had been verifying the facts. Police have meanwhile registered a case under Section 304-A (causing death due to negligence) of the IPC and arrested one of the accused Karnail Singh.
