KOTKAPURA, Faridkot: A handicapped youth along with his brother on Saturday began a fast unto death in front of police station here demanding return of the bribe money which they had been forced by an assistant sub inspector (ASI) to shell out.
The protesters Manjit Singh and Rajiv Kumar, residents of Devi Wala Road here, alleged that ASI Des Raj forced them to pay Rs 5,000 for arrest of three persons who had attacked them about 15 days ago.
The deputy superintendent of police (DSP), Jagiri Lal Chawla, persuaded the protesters to end the fast but the latter refused to do so until the bribe money was returned and action taken against the accused ASI.
Manjit Singh said that three persons attacked his brother Rajiv Kumar with sharp-edged weapons on November 27. Rajiv Kumar was seriously injured in the attack and was admitted to Guru Gobind Singh Medical College hospital, Faridkot.
A case under Section 326 of the IPC was registered against the assailants Chhinder Singh, Hira Singh and Binder Singh at police station city, Kotkapura. Rajiv Kumar alleged that though Des Raj received Rs 5,000 for arresting the accused but they were never arrested.
A written complaint was also submitted to the DIG Faridkot and other higher police officers on December 7 for taking action against the ASI but nothing was done in this regard so far, alleged Rajiv.
