State housing board set to expand affordable housing with 4 projects
Bhubaneswar: Odisha State Housing Board (OSHB) has proposed four major projects to be taken up in financial year 2026-27, which together are expected to create nearly 6,877 inclusive residential units.
According to a review meeting by housing and urban development secretary Usha Padhee, the four new projects are Suango public-private partnership (PPP) project, spread over 12.9 acres near AIIMS-Bhubaneswar, Ranasinghpur EPC housing, Patrapada housing and Basanti Colony joint venture residential apartment.
Suango project is proposed to develop 2,867 dwelling units, including 1,034 affordable housing units. The project is expected to generate a minimum revenue of Rs 210 crore for the board, while Ranasinghpur EPC project, spread over 5.78 acres with an estimated investment of around Rs 397 crore, is expected to build 1,262 housing units.
The Patrapada housing project, which has been planned over 11.5 acres through e-bidding mode, will create 2,510 dwelling units, including 820 affordable ones. Under Basanti apartment project in Rourkela, 238 middle-income group and high-income group apartments will be built.
“The OSHB has sought alienation of suitable govt land from district administrations for development of the affordable housing projects,” a communication from the department said.
Padhee directed the OSHB to prepare a concrete and time-bound action plan for statewide expansion with clear identification of land, project models and target beneficiaries. She emphasised social housing should become a key focus area of the board to address the growing housing needs of economically weaker and lower-income urban families.
The OSHB sources said so far it has developed 32,343 housing units, shops and plots across 21 districts, catering to various income groups, including EWS, LIG, MIG and HIG. More than 20,000 units have been developed in Khurda district alone.
Earlier, the OSHB took up five major projects that are underway, investing over Rs 517 crore to build 1,484 housing units. They include Kharavela Enclave at Jagamara, Anugul Enclave Housing Project, Subhadra Enclave at Dumduma here, Vasudev Vihar project at Andharua and Gadakana housing project here. These projects are slated to be launched in July 2026 after completion of approvals and Orera registration, officials said.
