BHUBANESWAR: A delivery boy of a company, which delivers
Amazon products in the city, was arrested by commissionerate police on Friday for replacing costly mobile phones with marble pieces in the packets.
He was identified as
Jyoti Ranjan Pradhan, 23, of Puranpradhan under Balianta police limits on the outskirts of the city. He was working in BPO Convergence Limited, which delivers products of the e-commerce giant.
The matter came to light after delivery firm's senior official Ranjan Kumar Mishra lodged a complaint with Capital police against Jyoti after he found the costly mobiles had started vanishing from the Amazon packets.
Capital police interrogated Jyoti regarding the case. In course of the investigation, the accused confessed to his crime and told the whole story. Police recovered mobile phones from his possession.
Regarding his modus operandi, Capital police station IIC M R Garanaik said the accused was ordering the mobiles by mentioning wrong addresses. Normally the orders return to the office because of the wrong addresses.
Then Jyoti used to tamper with Amazon packets and replace the mobile sets with marble pieces, he added.
He along with his associates instead of delivering the parcels containing costly mobile phones to customers put marble pieces removing the mobile phones and repacked the packets and delivered them to different customers. The packets returned to Amazon office, said a release issued by commissionerate police.
