: Depressed since her husband’s death, a woman jumped into a well along with her 4-year-old daughter in
Betul
district on Friday morning. Her 6-year-old son, who saw his mother and younger sister jump to their deaths, stood in horror.
Spooked, he rushed home in panic and barely managed to narrate his maternal grandmother what he had just seen. The deceased have been identified as, 29-year-old
Babli Uike
and her daughter
Rohini, of Gondighoghra village under Aathner police station. “Babli’s husband had died around three months ago after a prolonged illness and she was depressed since then,” investigating officer SI Prashant Pal told TOI.
“Between 6am and 7am, Babli left her house taking Rohini with her. Rohan saw his mother going out with his sister and followed them. Babli scampered to a well on village outskirts and jumped into it with Rohini in her arms. Taken aback, Rohan came home running and informed his maternal grandmother, who in turn, informed villagers,” said Pal.
“Villagers then informed us. By the time they could be taken out of the well, both had died,” Pal added.
Babli had no dispute with anyone in the village, said the SI. Her mother told cops that she was depressed after her husband’s death.
Prima facie it seems to be a suicide. Investigations are on, said Pal.
