Bhopal: Panic gripped VIP Road in Koh-e-Fiza area late Monday night after a 30-year-old man was suspected to have jumped into the Upper Lake after abandoning his car near the Raja Bhoj statue. A purported suicide note recovered from the vehicle triggered a massive search operation, while videos of the incident went viral on social media.
According to police, an unattended car was found parked on VIP Road around 1.30 am. During inspection, police recovered a handwritten suicide note from inside the vehicle.
On receiving information, Koh-e-Fiza police reached the spot and launched a search operation with the help of Bhopal Municipal Corporation divers. The search continued throughout Tuesday, but no trace of the missing man was found till late evening.
Police said the missing man, a resident of Neelbad, works in a private company, while his father runs a medical store in the city.
Family members told police that he had been staying at his maternal uncle’s house for the past four days following a dispute with his wife. Before going missing, he allegedly sent a farewell message to his cousin, prompting relatives to search for him.
When family members reached VIP Road, they found the abandoned car and the note. Suspecting that he may have jumped into the lake, they began searching the area and questioned passersby. However, police said no eyewitness has come forward to confirm that he jumped into the water.
The incident drew a large crowd to the spot before police initiated the search operation.
Police said all angles are being investigated. Family members have expressed doubts over the suicide theory and believe that the man may have left the area on his own and could be elsewhere.
