Drunk man slits four-year-old daughter’s throat after wife refuses to return home in MP’s Anuppur
Bhopal: In a chilling incident in Madhya Pradesh’s Anuppur district, a 31-year-old man allegedly slit the throat of his 4-year-old daughter after his wife refused to return home following repeated domestic abuse linked to his alcoholism. The incident took place on Wednesday in Bendi village under Rajendragram police station limits, where the blood-soaked body of the child was found inside the family’s house.
Police identified the accused as Govardhan Singh Maravi, while the deceased child was identified as Preeti Maravi. According to investigators, Govardhan’s wife Amarwati Maravi left for her maternal home in Keshwani village around eight days ago along with her two children after frequent quarrels and assaults by her husband under the influence of alcohol.
A few days later, Govardhan allegedly reached his in-laws’ house and forcibly took Preeti back with him after his wife refused to accompany him unless he stopped drinking. Police said he later threatened his wife’s relatives over phone, warning that he would kill the child if she did not return home.
“The accused had a dispute with his wife and she went to her mother’s house. A few days ago, he went to his wife’s house and brought their daughter with him. The wife still refused to come back home. Last night he called his wife’s relatives and told them that he killed his daughter and asked his wife to come home. The accused slit the throat using a kitchen knife. He escaped, leaving the body in the house when we reached there. Later he was arrested from a neighbouring village where he was hiding,” Rajendragram police station in-charge Prakash Chandra Kol told TOI.
Police said the accused allegedly told investigators, “Had my wife been there I would not have done this.” He was produced before a court and sent to jail. Further investigation is underway.
