The blaze erupted at ​around 10 am on the 5th floor of the Vallabh Bhavan at old secretariat building, on Saturday morning.

Around 40 fire tenders pressed into service to douse the flames, but only one managed to reach its hose up to the fifth floor, highlighting the challenging firefighting conditions.

One person suffered injuries after a major fire broke out in the multi-storey Madhya Pradesh state secretariat building in Bhopal.

Madhya Pradesh CM Mohan Yadav has ordered an inquiry into the incident. Chief Minister Yadav's directive for an inquiry emphasizes the government's commitment to investigating the incident thoroughly and ensuring accountability for any shortcomings.

Historical Context

According to sources, Vallabh Bhavan (old secretariat building) housed the chief minister's office and other ministers' offices till 2019, and thereafter, the new Vallabh Bhawan was in use. Sources said old documents were stored on the 5th floor. Secretariat officials are trying to figure out the damage caused due to the fire.
