Pics from Karnataka: Block education officer gets Dalit student’s family a house

Moved by the plight of a bright Dalit student during his house visits, Puttur block edu cation officer (BEO) C Lokesh roped in individuals and various organisations to help build a house for the student’s family. - TNN photos

The house, which is 85% complete, will be handed over to the family on July 1.

This is all thanks to Manemana-beti, a programme implemented in the Puttur block education limits, where officials headed by the BEO visit the houses of SSLC students every year.

Lokesh said he visited Sunanda’s house in 2021, along with teacher Geethamani.

Lokesh said that Rs 6 lakh has been donated to build the 550 sq ft house.

Financial help to construct the house has come from Rotary Club of Puttur, and some other people.
