BANGALORE: Baby Nayana plunged to her death from the second floor of the apartment in Srinivasnagar on Monday night. Although the 1-year-old toddler was rushed to a nearby hospital, she couldn't be saved. She was playing in the verandah of her house.
Around 7.30 pm, her parents Manoj Kumar and Latha, both civil engineers and running their own business, heard her cry out loudly.
When they rushed down, they found their baby in a pool of blood.
The parents were having dinner and watching TV when Nayana slipped away to the verandah. She stuck her head out through the grill but couldn't pull it out. During the struggle, she slipped through and fell from a height of about 25ft.
She suffered severe injuries on the head and other parts of the body and was rushed to KR Hospital in Hanumanthnagar. Doctors there referred her to the Indira Gandhi Institute of Child Health on Hosur Road. But Nayana was declared dead on arrival. The post mortem was done at Victoria Hospital.
