16-year-old crushed to death by tractor
A 16-year-old boy lost his life after a speeding tractor hit the scooter he was riding and ran over him before fleeing the scene on RTO Road in Vijaya Bank Layout at 8.45pm. The deceased is Suraj Kumar, a Class 10 student and resident of Sarvabhoumanagar in BTM Layout 4th Stage. His friend and classmate, Pushkar Ram Lohar, 16, was riding pillion and escaped with injuries.
Suraj’s father, Jagadish Kumar, in his complaint stated that the two boys were returning home on a Honda Activa scooter belonging to his relative after refuelling at a fuel station near Vijaya Bank Layout Circle. They were travelling towards Sarvabhouma Nagar via RTO Road and Vinayak Hospital when the accident occurred.
As the scooter approached the junction, the driver of a tractor, allegedly driving at high speed, entered from a crossroad and suddenly applied the brakes. The abrupt braking caused the rear trailer of the tractor to swing and strike the left handlebar of the scooter.
The impact threw both teenagers onto the road. The tractor driver allegedly failed to stop and the right rear wheel of the tractor trailer ran over Suraj’s head.
In another case, a 15-year-old boy died in an accident near Kalpalli Bridge on Old Byappanahalli Road after his bike collided with a scooter. Riyan was travelling from Old Madras Road towards SMVT railway station when a scooter, ridden by Arun, 32, approached from the opposite direction. The scooter rider was allegedly riding at high speed and collided with Riyan’s bike. The impact threw the teenager off his motorcycle, causing him to hit his head on the road. He was rushed to hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead. Arun is undergoing treatment.
