Woman kills self after lover’s mother declines marriage proposal

Pilibhit: A 19-year-old woman was found hanging from a tree in the backyard of her house in Hirpur village under Seramau North police station in Pilibhit district after her lover's mother allegedly declined her marriage proposal and misbehaved with her mother. A case has been filed against the man and his mother under various charges, including abetment to suicide.Police said the incident took place on Jan 29 and a written complaint was filed only on Thursday by the deceased's mother, Sarojini Devi. She said her daughter Sukirti Chauhan had been in a relationship with one Rohit Kumar, 20, from the same village, for nearly three years.On Jan 27, Sarojini Devi had gone to Rohit's house to seek the consent of his mother, Rajkumari Devi, for their marriage, but Rajkumari allegedly abused her, threatened to kill her and her daughter, and forced her out of their house. When Sukirti found out about the incident, she took the extreme step on Jan 29, Sarojini stated in her complaint.SHO Sanjay Kumar said, "Based on her complaint, a case has been registered against Rohit and his mother under sections 351(2) (criminal intimidation), 352 (intentional insult), 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt) and 108 (abetment to suicide) of BNS. The accused are yet to be arrested."
