Bareilly: A newborn who died during delivery at the gate of the district women's hospital on Dec 23 could have survived had doctors and staff attended to the 35-year-old pregnant woman in time, according to a probe report by the hospital.
Speaking to TOI, chief medical officer (CMO) Dr Rameshwar Mishra said two separate probes were conducted into the incident — one ordered by the state govt and another by the hospital's chief medical superintendent (CMS).
"I cannot disclose the findings of the probe ordered by the state govt, but the CMS report has confirmed that the doctors and staff members were at fault and failed to attend to the patient," he said, adding that action would be taken against those responsible and their services would be terminated soon.
Recounting her ordeal, the woman said that when she reached the hospital, no staff member attended to her despite her condition. She alleged that a relative was forced to intervene and pull out the foetus, which was stuck halfway, leading to the newborn's death.
The woman's husband questioned the functioning of the govt hospital, asking why patients come to such facilities if they are not provided timely and safe medical care.
