Man accused of murdering 30yo woman injured in encounter
Bareilly: A man accused of murdering a 30-year-old woman was injured in a police encounter in Bareilly on Friday, police said.Vimal Kumar (30) allegedly opened fire on a police team while being taken for the recovery of the victim's mobile phone in BDA Ramganga Colony area under Bithrichainpur police station. Police retaliated, injuring him in his right leg. An illegal country-made pistol and a spent cartridge were recovered from his possession. He was admitted to hospital, police said.The case relates to the murder of Pooja Rana, a resident of Sanjay Nagar under Baradari police station. She had left home on Jan 12 for work related to an event management assignment but did not return. A missing complaint was lodged the following day.SSP Anurag Arya said CCTV footage showed Pooja getting into a car belonging to Kumar, a resident of Badepura village under Hafizganj police station. During interrogation, Kumar confessed to killing her by strangulation following a dispute over money while under the influence of alcohol, said police.Police said the accused later disclosed that he buried the body in a jungle area near Nakatia river and dumped the victim's scooty in a canal in Pilibhit. The body was exhumed and sent for postmortem.
