7 held after firing in group clash leaves 3 injured in Pilibhit

Pilibhit: Seven people have been arrested and four others were booked following a violent altercation between two Sikh farmer families that escalated into indiscriminate firing in Nabadia Sultanpur village on Monday. Three people sustained gunshot wounds. Police have seized four SUVs and five motorcycles used in the attack.

The clash stemmed from a recent, unspecified dispute between 19-year-old Manroop Singh and 25-year-old Gurjant Singh. According to police, Gurjant and his relatives intercepted Manroop’s SUV using Mahindra Thars. When Manroop’s family rushed to his rescue, the rival group opened fire with pistols and licensed guns.

Manmohan Singh and Sukhdev Singh sustained bullet wounds to their abdomens, while a third, Satvinder Singh, was hit in the forehead by a pellet. All three are receiving treatment at a govt medical facility.

“We have booked six named suspects, including Gurjant Singh, and five unidentified assailants for attempt to murder, rioting with deadly weapons and unlawful assembly,” said Brijveer Singh, SHO of Gajraula police station.

Seven accused, including Sukhchain Singh (48), have been arrested. Police also recovered a country-made pistol from one of the detainees and have deployed forces to maintain peace in the village.
