Nellore
turned into an ocean of sorrow when the body of
Mekapati Goutham Reddy
, who died of sudden cardiac arrest, reached here on Tuesday.
All roads leading to Mekapati's guest house were packed with running party workers and vehicles. Hundreds of party workers and followers paid tributes to the deceased minister.
Party workers from Atmakur constituency broke down while paying tributes. Home minister Mekathoti Sucharitha, women welfare minister Taneti Vanita, labour minister Gummanur Jayaram, Telugu and Sanskrit academy chairperson N Lakshmi Parvathi, Nellore ZP chairperson Anam Arunamma, former minister and legislator Anam Ramanarayana Reddy, Sarvepalli legislator Kakani Goverdhan Reddy were among those who paid tributes to the departed leader.
Earlier in the day, the state government shifted Goutham Reddy's body to Nellore in an army helicopter. The army deployed the special chopper for shifting the body following a request from the chief minister's office (CMO).
The mortal remains of Goutham Reddy would be shifted to
Udayagiri
town on Wednesday. The family of the late minister shifted the venue of the final rites from Brahmanapalle to Udayagiri in Nellore district. The final rites would be held at 11 am with full state honours at the
Mekapati
Rajamohan Reddy Institute of Technology and Sciences (MeRITS), the college owned by the Mekapati family in Udayagiri.
Chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and other cabinet colleagues would attend the funeral in Udayagiri on Wednesday. The chief minister would leave Gannavaram airport at 10 am and reach Kadapa airport in a special flight.
