An FIR has been lodged against the accused sub inspector
Mahesh Chandra Nishad
on charges of harassment, assault, issuing threats and SC/ST Act on the complaint of the woman cop, and he has been arrested on Saturday, said police officials.
The woman constable complained that SI Mahesh
Chandra Nishad
tried to get close to her during his posting at Georgetown police station between 2019 and 2022. He gifted her shoes but she refused to accept them and went to his official quarter near Allahpur police outpost to return it. However, SI
Nishad
called her inside and tried to rape her. The woman constable managed to rescue herself and threatened to lodge a complaint against him following which SI Mahesh Nishad apologized and promised not to harass her again. However, he continued calling her following which she complained to his wife.
Meanwhile, the SI Nishad was sent to police lines. On May 19, Nishad called the woman constable and said that his wife had threatened to kill her.
The woman constable then called the SI’s wife who used foul language against her. Nishad then called her to his quarter for a compromise where he assaulted her and even tried to strangulate her.

Ajay Kumar said an FIR was lodged against the sub inspector at Georgetown police station and a team arrested him immediately and sent him to jail.
SI Mahesh Chandra Nishad was among the policemen who were suspended for negligence in the rape case lodged by a woman against an assistant professor. He had rejoined duty and was presently attached to police lines.
