Pilot, Devnani, Bhadel score big; Jyoti loses on home turf

Ajmer: In the 29 seats in Ajmer division—comprising Ajmer, Bhilwara, Nagaur and Tonk districts—BJP scored much better than Congress and won 19 seats, while the Congress managed only 7. Two seats went to Independents and one to the RLP.Sachin Pilot retained the Tonk seat, defeating Ajit Singh Mehta of BJP by 29,475 votes. In Nagaur, Congress managed to defeat party defector Jyoti Mirdha, who contested on a BJP ticket, with Harendra Mirdha winning by 14,620 votes.Vasudev Devnani of BJP won the Ajmer North seat, for the fifth time, by 4,644 votes. BJP rebel Gyan Chand Saraswat managed to get 26,352 votes but Devnani got 57,895 votes and defeated Congress’s Mahendra Singh Ralawata, who got 53,251 votes. Similarly, Anita Bhadel of BJP won the Ajmer South seat for the fifth time. She secured 71,319 votes while Dropdi Koli of Congress secured 66,873 votes.In Pushkar, where both Congress and BJP were facing rebellion, Suresh Rawat of BJP won the seat for the third time in a row with a margin of 13,869 votes. He secured 84,619 votes while Naseem Akhtar of Congress, who lost for the third time, managed 66,873 votes.In Beawar, Parasmal Jain of Congress got 58,745 votes but lost to BJP’s Shanker Singh Rawat, again a fifth time winner, who got 67,623 votes. In Kekri, Raghu Sharma of Congress and Shatrughan Gautam of BJP were in a direct fight. Gautam got 99,671 votes and Sharma got 92,129 votes.

Poll 2023: Congress leading in 45 seats, BJP in 30 in initial trends in counting of votes in Chhattisgarh

Congress leads in 45 seats and BJP in 32 seats in the initial trends of counting of votes in Chhattisgarh. Deepak Baij and Arun Sao, the state Congress President and BJP state chief respectively, initially trailed behind but later took a lead. The counting of votes is underway for all 90 assembly constituencies in Chhattisgarh. There are 1181 candidates, including 155 women and one third gender candidate, who contested in the November polls. The results will determine the composition of the new assembly and if the Congress will retain power.
