One more arrested for impersonation

Ajmer: A man was arrested here on on Friday for having somene else impersonate him in the senior teacher Sanskrit (secondary education) examination. Just a day before, a person was arrested for doing the same for the revenue officer exam. Police have booked the arrested men under the new law on use of unfair means in examinations. RPSC secretary Ramniwas Mehta said that 19 candidates who qualified the Sanskrit teacher exam were called to re-check their documents on the basis of suspicion. During the re-check it was found that candidate Ramparsad Meena had given Rs 5 lakh to Babulal Jat of Barmer to appear on his behalf in the exam. Babulal sat in the exam and Meena secured 647 rank in the merit list. Section officer Naman Sharma of RPSC said he had lodged an FIR at Civil Lines police station where police have arrested Meena and are looking for Babulal. TNN

Confusion over biometric re-check leads to long queues at LPG offices

LPG distribution centres in Kolkata are experiencing long queues as consumers rush to update their biometric credentials for fear of losing their connection. Biometric authentication is necessary for those availing subsidies, especially customers in the below poverty level category. The current deadline for re-authentication is March 31, extended from December 31. Non-Ujjwala consumers receive a smaller subsidy of Rs 19.6. The re-authentication process has been plagued by technical glitches and long queues. Some dealers have taken advantage of the confusion to sell additional items or insurance in the name of biometric authentication.

Woman used fake documents, impersonator to secure bail

The police have booked Shanti Devi, her son Vinay Rishi, and an accomplice for securing her bail using forged documents in a cheque bounce case. Shanti Devi had obtained a regular bail but stopped attending the trial. The court ordered the police to trace Balraj Singh, who had arranged the bail, only to discover that someone had impersonated him. Vinay Rishi had signed the documents as a witness. The court then requested the police to register a case against the trio.

LPG delivery boys to carry biometric devices for doorstep Aadhaar re-check

Biometric authentication devices are being supplied to LPG delivery personnel to carry out re-authentication of biometric credentials of LPG domestic consumers at their doorsteps. This eases pressure at distributors' end as consumers no longer need to queue for Aadhaar re-authentication. Deliverymen now perform biometric authentication during doorstep delivery of LPG cylinders. Oil marketing companies (OMCs) clarify that the process is only for authenticating Aadhaar and does not affect subsidy or gas connections. Technical glitches may occur, but there is no specific deadline for biometric authentication.
