Suspecting of having an affair, man strangles girlfriend in Sarkhej

Ahmedabad: A 30-year-old businessman, Yasin Qureshi, was arrested by Sarkhej police for allegedly strangling his girlfriend, suspecting her of having an affair. The victim, Seema Pathan, 27, was found dead at her Fatewadi residence on the morning of June 6 by her brother, who noticed visible injury marks around her neck and alerted the family. Her mother subsequently lodged a formal complaint with police.Initially investigated as a suspicious or accidental death, the case was reclassified as murder after a post-mortem report confirmed strangulation. Seema, who finalised a divorce five months earlier, was living with her two children at her mother’s house when she began a relationship with Qureshi, a Khamasa resident who was planning to marry her.Investigators said Qureshi was possessive and frequently quarrelled with Seema over suspicions about her conduct. Police used CCTV footage, call detail records and human intelligence to identify and detain him. During interrogation, he allegedly confessed to killing her during one such confrontation. Qureshi has been booked under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for murder.
