AHMEDABAD: An effort to bring the intellectual property rights (IPR) and design a step closer, the National Institute of Design (NID), Ahmedabad is hosting a one-day awareness programme on Industrial Design Registration and Protection'. The programme is being jointly organised by NID and Office of Controller General Patents, Designs and Trademarks, Government of India, on Saturday.
"The programme willhave lectures, presentations, discussions and cross talks on various topics ofrelevance. The programme is intended to enable design professionals andinnovators to gain a comprehensive introduction to the fundamental areas ofintellectual property (IP). The programme will be in specific reference toregistration and protection of industrial designs under the Designs Act," saidBavin Kothari, senior faculty NID and the co-ordinator of the programme.
The topics covered under the workshop will demystify the mythsprevailing with regards to IP. The programme will impart comprehensiveintroduction to the fundamental areas of IP for creative design professionalsand innovators with specific reference to registration and protection ofIndustrial designs under the Designs Act 2002.
"The IPR Cell at NIDwas first established with a mandate of facilitating and guiding students anddesigners in the various aspects and issues in the field of IPR. The IPR cell atNID regularly holds workshops, sensitisation programmes, seminars, besidesgetting IP registrations done," Kothari said.
