Dumper driver hits car, speeds down wrong lane on SG Highway in a bid to escape
Ahmedabad: A 26-year-old dumper driver was arrested after allegedly hitting a woman’s car and attempting to flee by driving across the divider on the busy SG Highway on Thursday morning, police said.
The incident occurred near Jagatpur crossroads on Wednesday afternoon. According to traffic police, the dumper allegedly collided with a woman’s car while speeding along SG highway .
After the collision, the driver allegedly tried to escape and drove recklessly through traffic. Witnesses said the dumper crossed the central divider and sped down the wrong side of the road in an apparent attempt to evade pursuing motorists.
Traffic police personnel stationed on the route also attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver allegedly ignored their signals and continued driving. He eventually entered a nearby construction site before being intercepted.
Videos of the chase, showing the dumper speeding through traffic and crossing the divider, surfaced on social media and drew widespread attention.
Based on a complaint filed by traffic constable Jitesh Amrut, a case was registered against the accused individual, a native of Rajasthan currently residing near Anganaj village on the outskirts of Ahmedabad.
SG-1 traffic police booked the accused under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita relating to rash and negligent driving, along with sections of the Motor Vehicles Act.
